Why Tallow?
Tallow is rendered beef fat, and people have been putting it on their skin for a very long time - in soaps, in salves, in balms - long before modern cosmetics existed. In Virtuous it creates a rich base that helps condition skin and reduce moisture loss. We pair it with three organic ingredients to make an unscented balm that spreads easily and absorbs without a greasy finish.
What tallow actually is
Tallow is fat that has been slowly rendered and filtered until what remains is clean, stable, and solid at room temperature. It has stayed in use for generations for practical reasons: it is rich, it softens on contact with warm skin, and it holds up well without a long list of additives.
Why we chose grass-fed
We use grass-fed beef tallow because we wanted the best-sourced version of the ingredient at the center of our product. Sourcing is one of the few places a small family maker can be meaningfully different from a large manufacturer, and it is where we put our attention.

Most moisturizers carry twenty or thirty ingredients. Virtuous has four.

Unscented, and we mean it
Added fragrance is the first thing many people look for on a label when their skin feels reactive, and it is the first thing we left out. Virtuous contains no added fragrance and no essential oils. Not a light scent, not a natural scent. None.
What it feels like
Virtuous is a whipped balm, not a lotion. It is firm in the jar and softens the moment it meets warm skin. It goes on rich and absorbs without a greasy finish. Because it is concentrated, a pea-sized amount covers more than you would expect, and most people use too much the first time.
It is made for the places skin gets driest and tightest: hands, elbows, knees, feet, and rough patches anywhere on the body.
How to use and store it
Warm a pea-sized amount between clean fingertips and massage it into clean, slightly damp skin. Add more only where you need it. Keep the jar closed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. The amber glass helps protect the oils from light.
Patch testing and responsible use
Any product can disagree with any skin. Before using Virtuous more broadly, apply a small amount to a small area and give it a day. If irritation occurs, stop using it. Virtuous is a cosmetic moisturizer. It is not a medicine and is not intended to treat any condition. If you are dealing with a skin condition, that is a conversation for your doctor.
